How you can support OSCIL

Many times we receive calls from individuals asking how they can support the work OSCIL is doing in the community.  Below is a list of several ways you can support OSCIL:

Membership – Consider renewing your membership or becoming a new member of OSCIL.  Individual or business/organizational memberships are a great way to show support of OSCIL’s services to the disabled community.  OSCIL’s Membership Year runs May 1 through April 30.  To receive a membership application, call the OSCIL office at (401) 738-1013.

General Monetary Donation – Anytime during the year you can send a personal check or money order payable to OSCIL, 1944 Warwick Ave., Warwick, RI 02889.  Private donations enable us to continue providing quality services to consumers throughout Rhode Island.

United Way & State Employees Charitable Appeals (SECA) – OSCIL can be supported through your company’s United Way or SECA workplace campaign.  [To designate OSCIL, write in Ocean State Center for Independent Living on your pledge card.]

Honorariums and Memorials - Give a gift to OSCIL in honor of a friend or loved one.  It’s a gift that will support OSCIL’s work in the community.  For more information, call Lorna Ricci at (401) 738-1013 ext. 21 or email lricci@oscil.org.

Donate New or Slightly Used Household items - OSCIL’s Community Living and Housing Programs assist individuals either transitioning from nursing homes back into the community or those individuals who may be setting up housekeeping for the 1st time.  Often these individuals are on fixed incomes, are starting with nothing, and do not have the resources to purchase some of the items they will need.  If you have new or slightly used items stored away in your garage or basement, please consider dropping them at the OSCIL office so we get them to those in need.  Some of the household items often needed are twin sheet sets and blankets, dish sets, cookware, utensils, coffeepots, microwaves, and lamps.  For more information, call Lezlee Shaffer at (401) 738-1013 ext. 17 or email lshaffer@oscil.org.

Donate Used Assistive Devices – Consumers often contact OSCIL for help in obtaining Assistive Technology to help them maintain their independence in their home or community.  Many times they have no means of paying for these items and need to obtain them free of charge.  Items we occasionally have requests for are tub benches, transfer benches, reachers, magnifiers and CCTVs.  If you have any of these items around the house that are in good condition, in working order and not being used, please help us find new homes for them.  OSCIL has a small storage area where we can hold these items until requests come in.  Please contact Lezlee at the OSCIL office if you have questions about what could be donated.

Volunteer  – From time to time OSCIL is in need of people to assist with special events, fundraisers, computer projects, and general office coverage.  To be included on our call list, contact Carol McKenna at (401) 738-1013 ext. 10 or email cmckenna@oscil.org.
