Deaf Services

Services primarily revolve around the breaking down of communication barriers.  OSCIL networks with the Department of Human Services, hospitals, police, fire departments, Social Security Offices, individual doctors' offices, and other agencies and organizations to bridge the communication gap with Deaf individuals. 

Community Outreach In-Service Training is provided in:

  • Use of the TTY and Relay RI
  • Understanding Deaf culture and Deaf awareness
  • Correct use of a sign language interpreter 

Direct services to Deaf consumers include basic reading education, sign language classes, a smoke detector program, citizenship training, driver education training, education on the Relay Service, in addition to the direct services listed in the previous section.
