Assessment Services
OSCIL offers comprehensive independent living assessment services at the request of individuals with disability, service or equipment vendors, Medicaid and other state agencies. These assessments recommendations for specialized equipment, home modifications and/or independent living services that are required for the consumer to achieve goals for independence in the home and community.
Fee-for-Service Assessments
Fee-for-service assessments are provided at the request of an insurance provider or other payer. OSCIL is currently providing fee-for-service assessments for people who are insured by Rhode Island Medicaid or the Neighborhood Health Integrity Plan. We also provide assessments for people who are receiving services from the Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS).
RI Medicaid & Neighborhood Integrity
Medicaid or Neighborhood will contact us when they need an assessment to determine whether specialized equipment is medically necessary and appropriate for one of their customers. Some types of equipment that may be covered include ramps, stair lift, vertical platform lifts (VPL), and special bathroom equipment.
Consumers must be on one of the participating insurance plans to receive this assessment; if they have a different type of insurance, OSCIL will refer them to the correct resource to receive an assessment.
Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS)
In addition to insurance providers, OSCIL also completes home modification assessments for the Office of Rehabilitation Services. If ORS determines that a client may be a candidate for home modification services as part of their employment plan, then one of our IL Coordinators will complete a full assessment and recommend any home modifications that are necessary to increase accessibility.
